ABOUT THIS GAME
"Tater Tot The Little Wizard's Endless Beach Adventure" is a third person puzzle platformer where you can record your actions and then have a copy of yourself play them back in real time.

This game is my entry for the Bad Ideas Game Jam.

STORY
After a long and perilous journey, you finally found the legendary artifact known as "The Box Of Endless Ocean".

Shortly after finding it, the box activates and you get sucked inside. Now it's up to you and your time powers to escape this box by solving a serious of puzzles.

Unfortunately for you, you can't swim.

DEVELOPMENT
This game was developed as a solo project. Visually, everything in the game was created by me except for the sand texture, which is a CC0 texture from polyhaven. The majority of third party assets are sound effects and music.

The game jam this game is for lasted the full month of March 2026, however this game was finished by March 18th and submitted to the jam shortly after. Due to some traveling plans I was not able to dedicate the full month to the creation of this game, so this turned out to be a good practice project for scoping games.

Despite not having the full month to develop this game, I am truly happy with how it turned out. I spent a lot of time giving it as much polish as possible in the user experience department, for example this game has full gamepad support and fully rebindable controls.

I've learned a lot making this project and I hope you enjoy playing it!

I got it running with a wine virtual Windows installation. It's weird that the default settings for audio is to have everything at zero. It was pretty fun. I played the first ten levels or so, but having multiple recording slots gets confusing when you can't see which one is which.

The popping animation for the blocks added to the vibe although I felt that the swoopy letters were a bit too drawn out during dialogue. They looked great for the title.

Overall, a very fun idea. I think it would be better if you just start out with one slot without having two more slots with Xs in them. It's a little confusing. Maybe make the three recording hat ghosts look different using different hues or something, and show some kind of preview when you select it.

I also accidentally recorded over my last recording several times. If the game is just for PC, maybe pressing the numbers 1, 2, 3 on the keyboard would be more intuitive for playing, and you can hold shift and press the numbers to record. It could prevent accidental overwriting.

No Linux build? :(
